AUTUMN/SPRING SEASON NOW BEING PLANNED. (26.7.2011)
The Sinden is offering a real mixed bag of entertainment for the Autumn 2011/Spring 2012 Season from opera to the ELO Experience and from Cinderella to music from Les Miserables. Please do let us know what you would like to see at your theatre and we will do our best to meet your needs. Please don't go for the big showbiz names though as most of them charge upwards of £10,000 a night and, unless our loyal patrons are prepared to pay around £50 for a ticket, this would be totally unviable for us!
BAR AREA TOTALLY REFURBISHED. (18.7.2011)
We're delighted that our new bar area has been totally redecorated by Homewood's own vocational painting and decorating department and this, together with new carpeting, chairs and tables, has made the bar a pleasant and relaxing area in which to meet friends for a chat and a drink. The refurbishment is not yet complete and there are plans to install French windows out onto the patio and revitalise the pond area which we hope, in the near future, will be reclaimed as another user-friendly area for those visiting the theatre.
AUTUMN PROGRAMME FEATURED IN THE KENTISH EXPRESS (5.8.2010)
Good to see that The Sinden's Autumn Programme was featured in The Kentish Express this week, it's very important that we reach the local communities with all of our forthcoming activities. I'll continue to send out press releases in the hope that they will reach the widest audiences. Many thanks Dan .
RARE BREEDS CENTRE 25th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS (3.8.2010)
It was a real privilege to be invited to The Canterbury Oast Trust's celebrations on their 25th anniversary at The Rare Breeds Centre, Woodchurch. Happily, The Sinden was able to contribute to the event by supplying staging and lighting equipment for the main marquee. Homewood School in general and The Sinden Theatre, in particular, have a special relationship with the COT which we hope will continue well into the future.
MARATHON FUND RAISER (10.7.10)
Staff and students from the performing arts departments at Homewood staged a 12 hour 'Performathon' last night to raise funds for the Celia Blakely Breast Cancer Unit at The William Harvey Hospital. The final total was a very satisfactory £600. Well done to all those taking part.
NOT SO MAGICAL...(9.6.2010)
Sadly, The Kent Air Ambulance Trust decided today to cancel the evening of magic with local magician, Etienne Pradier. Ticket sales had not met expectations. Surprisingly, the evening with Paul Daniels in July is also selling very slowly and it may be necessary for that show to meet a similar fate.
DANCE ON....... (6.6.2010)
Sunday and a busy day for the theatre as Munn's Dance Academy from Ham Street mount their first annual showcase at the theatre. Dozens of kids and parents all, hopefully accommodated, fed, watered and entertained at two performances in one afternoon! It constantly amazes us that we host so many local dance showcases each year; Smileys, Tenterden Ballet, Paris Performing Arts, Natalia's, Munn's Dance Academy... guess we must be doing something right!!!
Homewood Key Stage 3 students are busy rehearsing for their forthcoming stage adaptation of Walt Disney's 'The Aristocats'. Directed and produced by Homewood teachers, Tracey Aitken and Polly Thornton, details of booking and dates will appear here shortly.
THERE'S NO FOLK LIKE IRISH FOLK! (17.5.2010)
Sinden favourites, The Fureys And Davey Arthur, returned to play to a packed house tonight with their traditional mix of Irish music and wit. Their brilliant musicianship, coupled with their earthy presentation of songs both old and new, entertained the enthusiastic audience for over two hours. Eddie was telling me a wonderful story about the old days when his dad worked at the Guinness brewery in Dublin. There was a particular area of the brewery where the waste from the hops was stored, a favourite delicacy with the local rats! According to Eddie, among their number was a blind rat that, every night, was flanked by two others that led him to the waiting evening meal and, when they had all finished, again positioned themselves, one on each side of their blind companion, and led him back safely to the nest! I don't know whether Eddie has ever kissed The Blarney Stone, but it's a great story anyway!
HOMEWOOD'S GOT TALENT (2)! (26.3.2010)
Homewood students excelled themselves tonight with a showcase featuring hits from some of the best of the musicals and what a show it was. Yvette Redmond, Matt Hurst and the enthusiastic cast presented a show that was nothing less than brilliant. The three numbers from 'Les Miserables' were superb with the first half of the show culminating in the wonderful 'Master Of The House' which they performed with nothing less than totally-professional exuberance!
PRESS REVIEW (23.3.2010)
A full review of Gerald Dickens' show on March 13th will appear in the April issue of The Cinq Ports Community Times Magazine. Many thanks to editor Darren. Just hope that it's a good review!
HOMEWOOD'S GOT TALENT! (14.3.2010)
Some patrons may wonder why there seems to be so little on at The Sinden during the latter part of March and through the month of April. Surprisingly, perhaps, this is probably our busiest time of the year, although little appears in our publicity or on the website. During this period the theatre hosts final major projects and examinations for the music, performing arts and dance departments of the school, including BTec, A Level and GCSE examinations. Many Sixth Form students have to prepare their 'Final Major Project', which involves creating a complete show from start to finish where they are responsible, with the assistance of the theatre's staff and their teachers, for the publicity, ticketing, production and technical aspects of their show.
DICKENS OF A SHOW! (13.3.2010)
Although the audience may have been small, Gerald Dickens, great-great grandson of Charles, proved a huge success when he appeared at The Sinden on Saturday March 13th. Gerald brings to life the characters and times of his forbear with a wonderful mix of enthusiasm and knowledge.
Sadly, the original Sinden Theatre website was hacked into recently and it has been impossible to retrieve the information that it contained. We hope that patrons will find this new site useful but please do email us with any suggestions that you may have.
SINDEN HOSTS BBC RADIO 4's GARDENERS' QUESTION TIME. (24.12.2011)
See The 'What's On' Page for details.
